Use rainwater in the house and garden.

Flush Your Toilet

Of all the uses of purified mains drinking water that has been pumped for miles, this must be the most wasteful. The Rain Director® header tank delivers clean rainwater to toilets – so you flush with rainwater that would have otherwise gone down the drain.. which can only increase the satisfaction of a visit to the loo.. so to speak.

Fill the Washing Machine

Slightly more consideration needed here. Most washing machines need a minimum water pressure to operate so the header tank needs to be high up in the loft and the machine on the ground floor. The tank water will be drawn from just below the underground tank water level surface – clean enough to wash and rinse – and because it’s condensed, the water is very soft. If you have doubts about rainwater for washing ask an Australian or an American – many of whom can only use rainwater for all washing and cleaning. More on cleaner water.

Water the Garden

Plants don’t really love tap water and your water company can’t be relied upon deliver a constant supply in times of drought. If you have spent thousands on your plants, don’t risk losing your favourites to the sun. And why pay for water to power wash your drive, or clean your car or top up your pool or fill the irrigation dripper? Once you have control over the rain you will find that every cloud has a silver lining.
